Hello Everyone! I hope you all had good pickings at your local coin show today... This coin is struck from the earliest state of the reverse die used for some of the 96DB's. There is a diebreak from the rim to the nose, which forms a small Cud. The break across the Bust-line forms a small triangle-shaped Cud at the rim. I think that the circular ringing on the obverse are lathe marks. The E / LIB... seem to 'divebomb' right, and the centering triangle under it is sharp. What do you think?

I believe that bulge at the rim at 3:30 is a rim bump, not a Cud. Based on the positioning of LIBERTY, the date, and the reverse leaves, it looks like it could be an S-106.

Zurte: the Cud is below the edge bump; it can't be an S-106

I guess I'm not seeing the Cud. But you're right, it's not an S-106, the date position is off slightly. So I did an overlay with some known Rev of 94 varieties, and yours is an exact match to S-108. Here's a composite of some overlay pics. All 4 pics are a merge of your coin with an S-108 using varying opacities. What little we see of the reverse also matches with S-108.

I thought S-108 too, but the die break on mine at the 6 enters the number from a different angle, plus S-108 is down the daisy-chain of strikes, and this has a very early reverse - ro grinding near the fraction area. Here's the bust die break on the S-108
Have you seen a crazier hair scheme than what is there under the ribbon knot? That design does not exist on the DB series

I still think S-108. With the extensive wear around the date, I doubt the remnants of a fine die crack between the 9 and 6 would still be visible.

I've never seen this before; it just doesn't exist this way; that horizontal hair lock is interwoven... there are other cracks that don't show in the photos. High grade S-108 for comparison

Here's the "Other Thing": the centering angle under the E is very sharp (seen in the 2nd pic); these are almost always polished-off the die when it's ready to enter service. This can't be a VEDS while being a TDS, unless something else is going on. I wish that it were an S-108, but the cracks across the busts are very different, and S=108 centering angle disappears almost immediately, as far as I can see.
