I found an old coin with writings "HISPAN ET IND" DEI GRATIA CAROLUS IIII 1801. Can anyone shed some light as to what coin is that and is there value to it?

Hi Shuimi, welcome to the forum.

I don't think this is the correct place for the question, the moderators probably will move it to relevant forum:)

I think it could be better if you could post some pictures of this coin to get it identified.

Welcome again and enjoy your stay

It sounds Spanish, but we'd need to see pics to verify which part of the Spanish empire it's from. It could also be fake: the Spanish "Pieces of eight" were copied quite a lot, both way back then and up to today. A lot of fake coins like this are coming out of China these days.

Welcome to our CC family!

Pictures would be very helpful in helping you identify your coin. If you have problems, there is an Uploading Images tutorial that will help you out. Please make the pictures large and clear enough to be able to see the details (about 4" should be fine). The images need to be under 100k to upload.

Although this is a World coin, I'm moving it to the Main Coin Forum to give it the most visibility.

There is a very common modern copy of the 1801 Mexican Eight Reale made in China. If the coin has a reeded edge - lines like you see on the edge of a US 25 Cent coin or on many other large silver and C-N coins ||||||||||||||| - it is a counterfeit. The correct edge is a series of small squares or rectangles alternating with circles.

Does your coin look like the one in the auction below?

This is the modern counterfeit struck in a collared press.
