I am thinking of selling some coins with heritage auction and what they suggest is send them the coins and then they will send them to get graded and slab. ....Or should I send them in myself and get them graded then when they return , talk to heritage about auctioning them.
Also has anyone used them for selling coins and how is there service.
They are telling me they retain 10% of the selling price. Or is there going to be a lot of other adds I am not aware of.
It will be several key date gold coins for sale.
I am not comfortable going to a dealer to sell them because I doubt I will get half of what they are worth. Also the heritage auction seems to pull more money and buyers than ebay? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Mark

I haven't sold anything through Heritage but I've purchased several of my most valuable coins in their auctions. If you have key date US gold coins you may indeed get higher returns from Heritage since I've noticed their auction lots tend to attract high bids. They are very reputable. However, you won't get your money quickly. You need to send in your coins well in advance of the auction and you won't receive any proceeds until maybe 2 or 3 months after the auction close.

I'd see if they can first appraise your coins and let you know how they think they would grade. If you like what you hear then let them handle the submission to the grading service. If you have any choice in the matter I'd go with PCGS since their graded coins seem to attract higher prices.

Good luck, and please let us know what you decide to do.

You surely want to have heritage submit your coins for grading! Heritage are big players in this industry & I think the TPG's will want to make them happy with favorable grades!

I Hope it is NOT so.....
however, I would also not bite the hand that feeds me...
On the other hand, Can PCGS afford to be biased in Favor of Heritage or Stacks?

No. They can't. The coins are supposed to be viewed 'blindly' with no regard to the submitter.

I myself would have them slabbed and then submit to Heritage. You may end up with a grade you don't like or worse.... no grade :-(

it probably cost them less to get your coins graded than if you submitted them yourself since they do so much business

I would have them slabbed on my own... If your not happy ask Heritage to resubmit...
