if this is maching doubling, (and it probably is) it is different than any if see so far. to the best I can tell, there is nothing remarkable about the mint mark. the only feature is the extra line at the inside top curve of the 6, in the date. I cant find anything that resembles this at "coppercoins" site. is this Machine Doubling - or something else. thanks

with all due respect, and o DO respect your opinions, physically - how does the doubling occur alone the inside curve, and the doubled image does not affect the primary image. I can easily understand that happening along the outside of the primary image. whereas I do believe you are correct, I am a bit uncelar as to how this happens along the inside.

Machine Doubling is created when the die shifts slightly as a coin is being struck. Machine Doubling is
the result of loose mechanical parts that cause a poor strike. In Machine Doubling there is no doubling in the die, just in the strike.

Machine Doubling can affect a lot or a little of raised devices. How that is is really not clear to me but it happens.

i understand that Machine Doubling is not a function of the die having doubling, however is it a function of the image being double - is it not. yes its mechanical, and not part of the art of the die. your explanation doesn't seem to address my question. it might be too nebulous for me to comprehend at this point. if so - my apology for not being up to speed yet. but thanks, in any case.

Machine Doubling does not make the devices wider like a doubled die. The doubling is different from strike to strike. It is just how the die twists while striking that makes the strike distorted. Nothing is doubled, just damaged.
Here is what I found in a roll of cents that you can see the same marker from the same die, yet 6 different sets of Machine Doubling on 6 different cents.

Compare Machine Doubling again a doubled die:

A doubled die is usually something you don't have to look hard for it. It usually leaps out at you unless it is minor.
