Im thinking about starting a Morgan dollar set. Grade I would like G tops or worse. Yes I said that right. Everyone collects with a low grade and then up. I would like to go as low as possible and still be able to read the date. And then over time I can downgrade. LOL. I think it will be quite fun.

Check out my avatar. Surprisingly enough, Carson City coins are going to be fairly plentiful in this area. Morgans were more popular in circulation out West than in the East, and as a result it's actually easier to find lowball Carson City and San Francisco Morgans than it is Philadelphia issues.

Good luck with the 1921! You may have to carry it around for a couple of decades in your pocket!

yeah the 21 is going to be one of the hardest ones. LOL everything is so backwards. Here is my starting coin. Its just what I want. You have to really stop and look to see that it is an 1882-O.

Haha this is great. I went to a coin shop in Omaha, Nebraska once and they just had a whole box of crap Morgans for $10 a piece.

This is a great challange with a smaller price tag as a higher grade morgan set. Some of the CC's and 1893's and 1894 will cost a pretty penny even in AG-G.
Good luck. Keep us posted!

if you have not already done so, you might want to look around for cull rolls.

Are the dates and MM on a morgan readable out to FR-02 or even P-01?

This is an 1890 CC graded G. I could probably take some better pics. Maybe I'll do that when I get time.

IDK that one looks just a bit to nice. Im thinking they are best without a complete rim. Where I work if someone brings in a bad morgan we give them about $10 for it so I will just keep my eyes out for them as they come in.

Do you mean the 1890 CC graded G is too nice?

I can see it now...you buy a roll of Morgans from an ebay seller who advertised them as G-4s. When you receive them, much to your dismay you find the roll is littered with G-6 and even a few VG-8 coins. You immediately ask for a refund. The seller refuses. You retaliate by going to the Auction Forum here on CCF and writing him up as another dishonest, underhanded ebay shyster.

Yup you got that right, I expected a roll of coins that were downright nasty. But NOOOOOO we gives me all of these nice coins.
Yeah I'm thinking the CC is a bit to nice. I talkin really really worn. The G's are reserved for if I need a filler. (the fun is in that everything is backwards.)
