I could be completely in left field here, but I thought as of 1990 the mint stopped hand punching mint marks. Wouldn't that mean that this couldn't be an RPM? I assumed it was for all denominations, so feel free to straighten me out on this one. I'm also no expert on varieties either, but your first pic looks like some form of damage. Especially considering the dig at the bottom left of the D as well.

Hopefully the experts will chime in for you soon.

Yes I agree with you tights24 that they stopped hand punching of mint marks in that year. Could be a damaged mint mark after all. Here's an additional pic. Thanks

No chance of an RPM after 1990. Anything after that year would have to be damage or Machine Doubling.

Or if all the obverse including the date and mint mark is doubled then it would be a doubled die, right?

It would then be a doubled die. But not all the areas many not be doubled. Seems like quadrants are affected and the big ones have the large amount of doubling.

There is also a 1996-D DDO, but I don't have an image of it. I guess I haven't found it yet?
