'arf an ounce of gold (approximately), 369250 minted. This baby has seen some circulation, so XF I'd suppose? Sorry, I don't know how to grade. Excuse me. Wait till tomorrow for the experts to wake up.

, to the community, I agree this coin has seen a good deal of circulation. I would grade it as VF-25.

to CCF I would put it at VF-20. This coin has been around the block a couple of times.

I'll agree with a VF grade. It would need more detail in the eagle's wings and Liberty's hair to qualify for EF-40. For comparison, here is my 1882-O eagle graded VF-30 in an older green-label PCGS slab. The graders were pretty strict with this coin, IMO. The many bag marks may have held the grade back. Oh, welcome to the forum Nickau!

Hello everyone.
Wow, what a great response to my posting in just a few hours. Than you very much to everyone.
Would it surprise anyone that the 1905S imaged above was sold to me on a well known auction site with a grading of MS-62? Supposedly based on an independent valuation. I used to have such fun buying coins on the auction site (we all know which one) but lately it has just been more trouble than its worth. Too many sellers trying to oversell their coins. I suspect that most get away with it as the buyers just cant be bothered to make a fuss. The most that happens if you do, is the standard send it back and I will refund. Buyer looses out both ways.

Welcome to Coin Community, and I sincerely hope that, regardless of how it was represented, you didn't actually end up paying MS62 money for that coin.

I would go no higher than VF-30. Many organizations that are not among the top Numismatic Grading organizations will over-grade their coins, some drastically, for profit. It's a lesson we all here at the CCF have learned, unfortunately, some repeatedly (me included). You still have a a great coin!! (In my opinion, any gold coin is cool!! )
