My children found a very lightweight coin or token with their metal detector. It has a ribbed edge like a coin, but lists no value on the face. The front it says James Monroe at the top and 5th president 1817-1825 on the bottom with stars down the sides. The reverse side has his signature at the top and a presidential seal at the bottom with the inscription (the coin was bent and battered and hard to read) Birthplace___ Party democratic republican A revolutionary hero he issued the Monroe Doctorine warning Europe to ______of North and South America. Any ideas on what this might be? The kids are dying to know!
