Wow, I wanna live where you people do. When I look at the ground, I just see dirt, and end up walking into things. Where can I go where money is all over the ground?

have to tell my story... years ago I spent a lot of time in aircraft around the world on business. like about 3 out of 4 weeks. I usually had TC's, and cash in paper bills for several countries in my carry-on case in a side pocket (the left over coins I always gave to the collection boxes at the airports for charity). One day I retired my old carry on case and bought a new one.It then "lived" in the garage for about the next 5 years. One day I was going to give it away. My Girlfriend tried to clean it and YOU guessed it..found about $1400 of paper and TC's in the little side pocket... we spent it on a cruise.......

I went to Scotland once. The Scots are very frugal and I didn't find a penny on the ground. Burns would be proud!

I found a $20 bill in the parking lot at work when I first started working here. I gave the bill to a coworker. That was stupid.
...and then I found a $5 bill in the same work parking lot a few months ago. I kept that bill.

Our family decided this year to start collecting all the loose money we find and put in a container and see what we get. The kids wanted to count it last week and we have found about $8.00 so far. It is not a lot of money, but it will get us out for a cheap treat at the end of the year.

I work at an airport where we have these "smart cart" devices for luggage. When you turn them in, you get a quarter. Well, on my spare time, I go and collect them and make out with $2-$3 per day on occasion. I then save the money for my next trip to Reno or Laughlin and spend it on buffet.

In the downtown area of Chicago traffic is horrible. One thing some nutty friends of mine do on occation is to throw pennies (cents) out into the middle of one of the really busy streets to see if anyone is nutty enough to go for them. I've seen Pennies on the ground at flea markets and no one will pick them up either.

vermontensium story reminds of when I was younger. We had a grocery store that you had to put a quarter in to use. When you returned the cart you got your quarter back(It was so the carts were not all over the parking lot). I use to go hang out there in the summer. The best days were when it was raining outside, people never returned the carts and you could make $20-30 in the rain as long as you didnt mind getting wet.
When I was a kid aroun 7-8 years old. My dad use to deliver bread to grocery stores. I use to go with him on Saturdays and in the summer. I use to keep a yard stick in the truck. While my dad was doing the paperwork in the store, I would get the yardstick and swipe all the change out from under the vending machines outside the store. I use to come home with pockets full of change which bought me lots of candy and soda.

Now I'm going to have to start carrying a yard stick with me.
Another good place to look for change is the candy boxes in front of gas station registers. People drop their change and when they don't see it on the floor give up the search. I learned that when I was younger working at a gas station and have taking up the habit again now that I am collecting coins. You'd be surprised how often you'll find change just sitting there on top of a candy bar or pack of gum.

Back in 1976 I worked maintenance at The Village Mall in Danville, IL. Cleaned the mall after closing. Used to find $5-10 bucks a week while sweeping. My big find however was a diamond Ring. Took it into the Jewelry Store there and was told it was worth around $1000. Being an honest guy, I turned it into the office. Didn't figure I would ever see it again. Low and behold, 30 days later when I got my paycheck, it was in the envelope. No one ever claimed it. Being the nice guy, I gave it to my Mom, who took it off after less than a week and dropped it down the sink drain. No it was not in the p trap either.

Like many of you I habitually look on the ground when walking. Late spring has been the most fruitful when I decided I would look where the giant piles of snow had been from the winters plowing. Often found quite a few coins and even a bill or two in the sand and dirt pile (kick it aside with your foot-don't dig through, too many sharp things hiding in there too!)

G'day, interesting thread !
Quote 1, L: "I'm not in pursuit of wealth; I just get excited when I find something." - they are not mutually exclusive outcomes.
Quote 2, L: "My brother thinks I'm weird." - I have brothers like that. Be patient with him. But we enlightened ones cannot let ourselves be held back by the unenlightened: we owe that to future generations ...
Quote 3, R: "Wow, I wanna live where you people do. When I look at the ground, I just see dirt, and end up walking into things. Where can I go where money is all over the ground?" - not all areas are so fertile: see comment about Scotland. I have a friend who used to search abandonned mining towns near where I live. Over a couple of decades he found countless bottles and artefacts, a few revolvers - long rusted up, but nevertheless valuable to collectors - and a lot of bronze coins, some silver, and half a dozen gold sovereigns and half-sovereigns. This morning, after walking my sons to school, I found two coins on the way home. I get at least that many each week: keep your eyes open, wide open, is my suggestion.

Streets are very clean here too. Since the smallest denomination is 5c people just don't throw them to ground. This year I have found few 5-20c coins (euros), Danish krone, US dime and Finnish penni from the 70's. I remember when I was in Florida a decade ago how much there were pennies lying everywhere on streets, malls etc. When I'm abroad I always find more coins than here.

But Eurocoin, isn't that because Finns are really Scotsmen who like the colder climate?
