when I was a cashier on night shift I would just open up all my rolls of change and search them buy the ones I wanted and put the rest back.

Now I want to buy lots of rolls at a time to search but my bank seems to not want to cooperate so I was wondering what you guys do?

I was thinking of opening up another account at a bank that would be happy to help me and just get my change from there and deposit the leftover change to my main bank account and start again. lol

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks

p.s. how hard is it to get halves?

Welcome to the forum! I would open another account at a different bank! Buy your rolls or boxes anywhere you can and dump the unwanted at the bank that's not serving your needs! It wouldn't hurt to spread them out at a couple of branches if you're talking about ALOT of coin! I'm on my 2nd secondary bank as the first one I chose (who said getting me boxes of halves would be no problem) back out on their end of the bargain in the first month (after only one box)! I make it a habit to grab halves from any bank I'm around and I'll take any rolls and loose that they have! This has not only paid off in silver but they see me so often that I guess they think I'm a customer! My bank that I grab rolls from was low on change and couldn't sell me any...so I went across the street and grabbed their halves and they sold me a box of nickels and 20 rolls of dimes! The branch that I get my halves from also has a free coinstar machine for customers. I buy my halves from them but roll them and dump them at a different bank, but everything else goes through the coinstar! I rarely deposit my coin, I just take the cash because of a situation I encountered at my first secondary bank. Apparently they viewed my activities suspicious and asked me to close my account. If they see you at the bank often enough they get to know you and wont even ask if you have an account with them.I would suggest using banks with many branches close to you so you can pick change up from any of them if needed. (in case one is low or out and wont supply you) Of course, you can try to have them order boxes for you but if you over do it, they may try to get you to open a business account! Good Luck and have fun!

thanks so much ratman! yeah today I went to my bank and deposited my change there and went to two other banks to get more I cant believe how some banks are hard to deal with. the two I went to after gave me no problem and did not even ask if I had an account so I might of found two good banks to go through. woo hoo! want bank do you go to that has a coinstar for free? cause that would be nice no hassle but I dont want to pay the 8.9% fee (i think thats what it is) at a regular coinstar

I don't know what banks are around you...I'm in NC. The bank I use that has a free Coinstar is RBC (Royal Bank of Canada). There is another local bank here that has one. I went bank hopping today looking for Half Dollars. (found a 1964 & 1967). The bank that I got the 1964 from was so happy that I took the 5 rolls of halves of their hands they were willing to sell me a box of nickels and 10 rolls of dimes (they didn't know me from Adam because I'd never been there before) Didn't even ask if I had an account with them (I did). The box of nickels wasn't a very good one but I did get a 1908 V nickel! I stopped at a bank that I did not have an account with but had been to before trying to buy halves...the teller would not sell me any because I didn't have an account! You don't run into that very often! Most banks are glad to get rid of them!

TD bank (NJ, NY, DE, MD, PA mostly) has a free coinstar or "Penny Arcade" as they call it. They are always very nice and have not asked me once if I have an account there (I don't!)
You should check out the threads on half dollar, nickel and penny searching. There are some regular great finds and tons of info.
