after searching through a couple of thousand lincolns in the past few weeks, I have come across 4 definite RPM's (2-44D's, 1-53D, 1-60'D), and three more which I believe are RPM, but haven't got confirmation from our resident experts, and 1-98P DDR. all average circulated grade - worth loosely $ 1.00 - $ 2.00. fun finds - for me - certainly, but what are the odds of finding a high value "jewel" from roll searching. sure $1.00+ for a $.01 purchase, is a terrific return on investment, (and call the time spent - as "hobbyist" time, which has some value of its own. are there still some truly great finks still circulating, OR are we (am i) chasing an elusive - urban legend?

I am horrible at pictures but I would say everything is in the eye of the beholder.

Remember that not everyone cares if one coin is different than another. Same with notes. I have picked up gutter folds from circulation for face value. People might think they are neat but it doesn't translate into increased value outside of the collectors minds.

Rarities are indeed in circulation but the value is established by people like you and I that want to collect/hoard them.

What keeps most of us from hunting more is time. It is very time consuming to go through rolls on a large scale.

To answer your question, yes high value coins are indeed circulating. All depends on which hands they pass through for if/when they actually ever get "discovered"

Judging by the coins featured on foundinroll's website, I would have to say that he would adamantly disagree that high value roll finds are an urban legend As for myself, my best find has been a 1979-S TII(clear S) SBA

i would say yes I have found several neat things in rolls from the banks or change (just found 36ddo #2 ) but the best ones have been 1983 ddo#1 and a discovery piece a 1988 d rdv 006 die#2

They are out there, as other members have already stated, keep looking!

In the past year I've found some real nice coins in circulation.

Just a few examples :
A 1999 Wide AM, 2006 Doubled Ear (018) in MS grade and my own personal favorite, the #1 Trail-Die/Wavy Step, the 1999P-1DER-015WST(Stage D) also in MS Grade.

I got 4 rolls of 2009-P mint rolls and found 62 variety Cents and 7 die clashes. 7 different varieties. Anywhere from 4-21 of each in the rolls.

I am in kind of a cold streak at the moment, but I agree with all of the posts above; the "goodies" are still out there! In the past year in bank rolls I have found two 1968d 1DR-001, six of the more minor 1972 varieties, a 1970s Small Date, a Gem 1984 Doubled Die (double ear variety), a 1982 1DO-002, two 1994 1DR-001, two 1995 1DO-001, a 1999 Wide AM, something like two dozen combined 1998 and 2000 Wide AM's, two 2001 1DO-001, and what has really blown me away are SIX 2006 1DO-017's. Don't give up!!
Rest in Peace

I agree there are valuable coins out there. I sold an extra 1999 WAM I found out of circulation on ebay to raise money for a coin purchase and it brought $189. There are other nice examples listed above. It is possible to find the big ones.
Rest in Peace
