Anyone know what kind of coin this is? I think it may be gold, and it is small probably the size of a penny. I know the pics suck, but it is all I have.

Thanks

G'day, it looks like a religious medallion.
If you could tell us what the legends are, it would probably help ...

I think we need clearer pictures.
But I have definitely seen the coin before.

Looks like a Venetian gold ducat to me. I'd need to see the side with the two figures much clearer to give an indication of the date, but it's pre-1799.

It is years too late, but just for fun does anyone want to take a crack at identifying the ruler mentioned on this Venetian Ducat?

Here is the best that I can do with the OP's pic and I note that we are unlikely to get anything better as this thread was started 15 years ago:

Alas, the ruler name would have been on the other side, which is too blurry.

But we can date it more precisely than "pre-1799": after the 1550s the design had changed to add full coverage of stars at top left, which is clearly missing on this coin.
Looking at the designs on Numista, I'd say probably 1312-1501, most likely 1339-1413. If I had to guess one specific ruler, my guess would be Andrea Dandolo (1382-1400), but there's a few others who are at least plausible.

As j1m says, an in-focus photo of the obverse would help identify the exact time frame... as long as the legend can be read. And also to confirm it is Venice, and not one of the places that imitated this type.

The left side of the obverse legend appears to be intact, but this doesn't help for Venice (it is always SMVENETI). We need to see the right side for the doge's name.

The only prominent feature in the blurry obverse photo is the sharp angle and straight forearm of Saint Mark Possibly resembles this one: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces114284.html

... but could just be a die variety on any doge in the period mentioned by j1m.
