As of late I have buying mint, proof and silver proof sets to break open mainly for the Kennedy half dollars and Lincolns. What should I do with the sets once I take the coins I want? I should have done this as a poll, but here goes anyway. Start folders/albums with the other coins. Sell the broken sets w/ COA to someone who wants the other coins. 2x2 the remaining coins and toss into a box. 2x2 the remaining coins and sell as singles. Or other....... Thats a good question. I am lucky enough to have all of the books that show up in the mint, and proof sets. However, with the silver proof, I am only using the quarters, the dime, and the half dollar out of it. All of the rest duplicates from the clad proof set.
When I went to the mint sets for my p, and d, I still liked the fun of searching my change. I started a set for my brother, as an excuse to keep looking for things. The duplicates from my silver proof sets go into his set.
I am sure that there are other people out there who might need proofs of the ones that you don't need. I"m sure that once you find them, it will help you both out, in that you get rid of your unwanted coins, and they get what they need.

Check then for varieties and gems. You'll find quite a few in the mint sets; especially gems. Most of the other coins aren't worth much and can be spent but be sure to check the BU roll prices as many of these go for many multiples of face value now days.
If you want to go to the work of assembling sets you can make a little more money but it's a lot of work and not much more money.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

What is the best way to now value a broken set?
Value of set minus the value of the missing coin(s) ?
Add up total vlue of each remaining coin ?
What about value, if any, of box, lens and COA ?
