What do you use to track your coin inventory. I know there are small ringed books, software programs, and probably other ways I have not seen or thought of that could be used. I am just trying to get a feel for what everyone is using and what you consider to be the best.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

I use Excel, no beating it. Gives me flexibility and the power to arrange the data any way I wish.

I've used MS Access for years. Takes some effort to learn, but well worth the effort. Can get about any type of list/report I want and if needed can export anything/everything to Excel.

I have an Excel spreadsheet, and I also have a filemaker pro database. I have found that there are things that I like with the spreadsheet, and things that I like about the database, so I just keep both.

I use Numbers (Mac) and it works well. It has many options that excel lacks.

Quote: I use Numbers (Mac) and it works well. It has many options that excel lacks. Can you give specific examples? I use Excel for inventory and just about everything else, and I can't think of any functions that Excel lacks in regards to tracking coin inventory. I'm not disputing what you say, rather I am asking out of curiosity.

I have a spreadsheet as well. I use OpenOffice.org, but I do have Excel at work. My inventory spreadsheet works with both equally; what I save in one is perfectly handled by the other.

I think that the debate in which program is better, is in the user. It is just like the Mac vs PC argument. I like a Mac better because I learned on a Mac. Whenever I go to a PC, I get frustrated because I am not used to it. It is the same way with most programs.
When I did my Excel spreadsheet, I learned ALOT about Excel that I previously didn't know. I put my sets into a database as well, and learned ALOT about filemaker pro. I don't know everything about either program, just enough to do what I want it to do, and to be dangerous.
Most people don't have the patience, or time to learn a new program for their coins, so they go with what they know. It all depends on what you want it to do, and can figure out how to accomplish that goal.

I use CoinManage. It is pretty good, but the support is awful. I would like to see someone's excel spreadsheet. I might want to try that.

I don't really track my coins. I have a small "inventory", though. Also, I keep my coins on a shelf. I know what I have, what I need, and when something goes missing. I never realized there were such great benefits to owning so few coins.
