OK, I have to weigh in here. Why on earth did they include a space in the Whitman album for the 1856 Flying Eagle cent? Were they drunk when they designed it? Did they look at the two pages and say, "Well hell...if they're making us leave the 1869 "9 over 8" slot in there it's gonna be all uneven with the number of holes in each page. I know! Let's put the 1856 Flying Eagle in there!"

Chhhh. Let's say I whipped $10,000 out of my wallet and ran out to buy one of those bad boys....because I usually roll with at LEAST that much coin in my pocket, right? I'm fairly certain whatever I find will at least be graded and slabbed. Do they think I will crack it out and plop the coin that costs more than my car in between two flimsy pieces of plastic in a book?

Sorry....just felt like ranting.

You do have to realize that these books were designed about 30 years ago.
At that time the 1956 Flying Eagle cent (using the 1977 Red Book) was only $700 in G-4.

Using your logic above, the cost of the coin, should Whitman produce a copy of the Barber quarter album without the 1901 S quarter slot?
Considering that it could cost you, currently $7,000 in G-4 (and the 1856 Flying Eagle is $6,500 in G-4) then they should redesign that album also.

There are a lot of people on this forum who have coins worth $100's of dollars that are sitting between two flimsy pieces of plastic. I don't get it.

Kind of like buying a fancy old vintage car and then storing it under a carport.

I would have no problem adding a multi-hundred dollar coin to an album, provided that the coin was well circulated. I still need two Seated Liberty dollars for my type album, they will cost me $3-400 each but will also be around VF. I do not think I would add a very expensive MS coin to an album though. The problem I have with the 1856 FE being included in an album is that it is not just another pricey regular issue like the 1901-S Barber quarter, the Flying Eagle was a pattern produced on a relatively large scale and was never meant for circulation. I consider it the equivalent of an 1895 Morgan being in an album, that was a proof only mintage of 880 but I have seen albums with a hole for an 1895P
