A quick google search tells me that they are selling for about 1K. With almost an ounce of gold in it, it would be worth at least melt value. Not sure of the demand out there. Info I found can be seen here.

If they grade these coins at the top TPG's, my guess is price would go up depending on the grade you would get. Again, it all depends on supply and demand in the end though.

At current exchange rate, it's at 1048USD. Face value of the coin is clearly more than bullion value but don't expect a lot of premium on it - people that owned these coins just take them to the bank and exchange them because coin dealers in Japan aren't paying too much for them. There are a lot of dealers that get burned on these coins because they are just too difficult to sell. I do not know any Japanese gold coins struck in 1990. Is it struck in 1991? http://www.mint.go.jp/eng/data/comm...e/index.html

There were just too many struck considering the high face value.

After looking at it again, it has a 2 stamped on it which would be 1991.

Thank you,
John
