Yes, Machine Doubling. Note how all the doubling is pushed in the same direction including the mint mark. Since the mint mark was added to the die separately, it would be unusal for both to be doubled although it can happen.

I have like 12 of the 69 S' and The one you show here is alot like one of mine but there is no doubling on the S!
I'm a newbie and its hard to know where to start!
Does anyone know what step I should take next,for some reason I really feel it's the one..LoL
I've held it for 2 month's and I gotta know!
I am in Tn,also I can't post pix cause my scanner broke and I lost my digicam in the ocean? Of all places!
Any guidance will be appreciated!

But Machine Doubling is VERY common on 1968-1971 Cents all mints.

penny loafer,

Take a look at the pictures in other threads that Coop has posted of the 1969 S DDO Lincoln Cent. Yours would have to match exactly. It can't just be sorta, kinda, like it:-) It has to be 100% identical or it is not the doubled die.

Machine Doubling can effect anything anywhere at anytime. In other words, The mintmark not being doubled helps when you have the doubled die. The mintmark can also show no doubling at all on a coin where the date is machine doubled.

Good Luck. If you can scan the coin on a flatbed scanner, or take a picture of it with one of the newer phones, we can probably help you to know if it's a good one.
