I agree with EF-40, and it looks like a crusty original to me. Excellent example!
Rest in Peace

Just curious, as I'm new, but what makes it looked like it was once dipped? (Need to know what to look out for in the future)

Nice looking type coin with light even wear. I'd call it solid for VF-35 and a possible for EF-40. The toning appears original and I don't see any significant problems. If it has been dipped it was done long ago and the coin has toned to a very natural appearance IMO.

It's interesting that this date has less than one-fifth the mintage of the common 1861 yet lists for the same price in all grades. I know which one I'd pick if offered a choice!

Foe me, the "relief" around the obverse stars and reverse lettering, where there is no toning, makes me wonder because the "normal" progression of toning is from the periphery inward. With that said, I used those words in quotes for a reason, because there are always exceptions. Jaobler's point here is important - if the coin has been cleaned, it was done chemically and not mechanically, and the color it has acquired since is quite appropriate.

All the same, I would consider this one "old cleaning, strong VF, likely EF40 with very little loss in value."
