Here's a Stone Mountain Half I picked up at an estate sale this weekend. I suspect it never circulated, but it has enough rub on it to drop it below MS. How would ya'll grade this one?

It looks Au to me, Nice find are they popular? You never know what can be found where you least expect it.

I guess it depends on who you are but I like the coin and I have an MS64 Certified copy and a AU circulated copy. I also bought my girlfiend a AU ciculated copy when she expressed an interst in coins and said she really like the Stone Mountain commemorative. I also really like the Pilgrem commemorative and I want to get a certified cope of it.

It looks like AU55 to me. I've seen many of these that fall in the AU58 grade, but the rub on the eagle's breast isn't present, just the obverse leg area. Your coin is very attractive. Thanks for sharing it.

I agree. Too much wear for AU58. This Stone Mountain is an AU55.

Always nice to see a coin I haven't thought about in a while. Seeing this again topic made me pull out the collection & revisit some old friends.
