I found a 2009 Sac Dollar in change the other day. I thought it was a little strange, because I didn't think that they were supposed to be circulated

No, this is the new design, so it is. In fact, you can order boxes of them directly from the mint.

Now, the true wonder is that you've actually gotten a dollar coin in circulation!

My guess someone either spent it accidentally or needed the cash!

The 2009 Native American Sacagawea dollars are produced in
a business strike version for circulation.

The catch is, you have to get them from the Mint.

The Federal Reserve made no provision for banks to be able
to order these business strike coins!

I've spent a few hundred of them, the majority at the car wash,
but I've had some interesting reactions when spending them in
face-to-face transactions ("Where's the date on this?",
"Are you sure you want to spend those? Those are Uncirculated!",
"Do you have any more of those that we can buy from you?").

If you got a Dollar coin in change without asking for it,
go buy a lottery ticket right now!

(I buy them out of cash drawers whenever possible, then again I'm
looking for them, and sometimes asking the cashier if they have
any!)

Has anyone heard yet of any edge lettering issues or other significant errors or varieties with the new Native American Sac dollars? I only ask because somehow the bank I dump all of my halves at has 20 rolls of them that a customer brought in, and they keep trying to pawn them off on me, and I really don't want them! But, if there is something to look for I will get them and dump them someplace else.

The only one I've heard of so far is no lettering. It was found in a box of Direct Ships.
