You are a nickel collector right? What is the top nickels out there. The reason I ask is because a long time back I won a nickel from a guy that busted up a roll and after I won and got the coin. He ask me was there something on the back and if it was then I had a nickel that was very rear. I don't remember yr or what it was. I know this sounds crazy. lol Edited by MikeThePenny 08/19/2009 4:12 pm

From what series? Do you mean nickels in general or from a particular series. IE, Jeffersons, Shields, Liberties?

The top nickel out there is a graded full struck coin with full steps. Now my Avatar the 1971 No S Proof is probably the scarcest, but depending on condition a common date coin in exceptional condition could be worth more, for example, a well struck 1953 S with 5 steps in MS69 could fetch thousands of dollars. He probably was referring to one of the two dates that have doubled lettering in MONTICELLO and FIVE CENTS That would be the 1939 philadelphia and 1945 P Silver War Nickel. Other than that there are a number of repunched mintmark varieties. Too numerous to mention all but some well known ones would be 1942 D over Horizontal D 1946 D over Inverted D 1949 D over S 1953 D over Inverted D 1954 S over D 1955 D over S

I am flattered to have my nickname up there LOL But I am not a modern coin so if you would please edit your top post to say something else. I am very flattered but thanks anyways. Hahhahha! I'll tell you something else, there are quite a few well informed people here on CCF that know and own some beautiful Jeffersons. I know metalman is one of them. He has some dandy images in the gallery. I think if you sign into the gallery and search Jefferson nickel you'll see some beautiful images.

Mike .... Your question makes no sense to me .......what are you asking for? Wheezydog was kind enough to supply an answer ..... but I'm not sure this is what you were looking for. What's up with the story of busting up a roll? .... how does that matter to your question? I'm confused ...... did you mean to ask "what Jefferson nickles should I be looking for?" Sorry ... trying to help here but at a loss of what you need David
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

Maybe it was a solid roll of 1939 D's and the seller just didn't know what he had? Maybe he listed them on ebay as 1939 nickels out of a roll? Then he discovered his mistake and had regrets and wanted to know if there was a D on the reverse? Who knows? Unless Mike comes back with a fresh memory, we can't say what it could have been. I think we need a little chunk more of information.

OK Let me try this way. A guy on ebay in the auction it said he opened a roll of nickels and he was selling them one at a time. I won one of those nickels and he was asking everyone that won one about a die mark on the back and if it was there it was suppose to be a marking to a key dated nickel. I do not remember yr or where the mark was on the back or what it was. Thats all I remember. Did that help?

Do you have his ebay message in your email inbox ( censor his ebay name ) ? Copy and paste that? Otherwise, it could be just about anything from a doubled die to a dollar sign die crack on a S mint War Nickel?
