It seems like forever that I've been working on this little roll set. My goal is to complete an all Memorial dates/mint (1982 to date) MS red roll set from boxes and pocket change. I guesstimate I have about 90-95% of it completed. When I started I thought I'd be done in a month or two.....WRONG! LOL It's taken me over a year and a zillion boxes...and I'm still not done. Anyone else working on one of these? Here's some pics and a close-up of the quality I'm putting into this set. Here's a TOUGH date to find in nice, red BU quality:

I started something similar a few years back, I also thought it would be a breeze.
My hat is off to you. It is a real labor intensive project to pull them yourself from boxes. Nice work.

I was thinking about doing that myself, and I guess now you have confirmed how much labor is involved with this! There are a couple of banks near me that always have customer rolls of pennies. I'm pretty sure it's some guy's dump bank. There are a decent amount of BUs but never any wheaties. Some of the stuff is from the seventies and early eighties and in really nice shape.

Quote: you found enuff red 59s to fill a tube? Some of them may have come from partial/full rolls I bought....but yes, most of what you see came from searching. I'm surprized more of you roll searchers don't do this. Why toss all those nice BU coins into the garbage pile? I find some outstanding, blazing red coins while I'm searching. A lot of rolls I filled quickly, but as I find better coins I replace any lesser coins in the roll. This has resulted in some of my rolls being absolutely supreme gems....far better than anything you could buy. Go look at the CDN prices for some of these rolls like the 1986-D ($27). The CDN prices are far too low, I've never been able to find rolls at CDN prices. When I have this completed it should be worth a nice "chunk of change".

Great set Thad I am doing pretty much the same thing only not nearly as far along. I also have been doing it with the Jefferson nickels, and have been considering the Washington quarters (65-98) and rossies. I usually use customer rolls as I find they tend to have more full reds for some reason(and more wheaties) than the bank boxes, although I do have to put up with more gum and gunk. Kie

I am absolutely humbled by this post ..... amazing accomplishment .... and quite a learning for a new collector like me. I offer to you Brad a few well deserved salutes ..... David says to self ...... "self, why have you been throwing away all those BU Jefferson's?" Self replies .... "because I am an idiot" Thanks for the inspiration! David
