I have been collecting Lincoln cents for quite some time now. Recently I have been trying to kick it up a notch and get the missing dates that I need. It's my opinion that I should try and get the most I can before 2009's release. I think there will be an increased demand for some of the scarcer dates so buy now while affordable.

I'm seriously considering assembling a speculation set for the specific purpose of turning it in 2009.

200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth- there will be a commemorative redesigning of the cent featuring various stages of Lincolns life in addition to a collectors only version of the 1909 cent composition

That's my bet too! MS65 RD or better Wheaties will and are hot! Keys are going up at this very moment. If you see a 1909 Lincoln Cent (in any mint mark) in RED BU condition, snatch it up! That year alone will represent the 100 year anniversary of this issue. I'm ready...the only major coin/variety I don't have is the 1955 DDO, but I have all of the rest including a 1922 NO D, Strong Reverse graded VF30 by PCGS in a old green holder. My only regret was I didn't buy some of these coins when I had the chance and means to do so! Boy have some of these coins taken off! Attached is my 1909 Cent Set ready for the 100th anniversary...(like a proud father) Download Attachment: 1909CentSet.jpg94.33 KB

HAh! I think the 1955 DDO is the only one I have, may have more but thats the one I was looking for in all the jars of pennies that my grandfather gave me, not sure if its legit or not but I am sure it came out of circulation because he has never bought any coins unless from the bank, here is a picture of it

Hype its all hype about the wheat cents going up in value !!! You guys need to clear them worthless cent coins out of your boxes, bags, and anywhere else that you have them,,
I have recently opened a collection point for these worthless pieces of copper,, email me for an address where to send them !!! Its free, with no obligation to disclose any personal infomation !!
Thats right folks ,, no charge for you to get rid of these very undesireable coins !!
Do it now do it often !!
This has been a public service announcement !!!
Actually I dont forsee any great price increases for this series with the 1909 commemerative issues, The high grade cents have and will continue to incremetally increase, the Keys will always be the keys, and the common dates will remain the common dates.
Just my 2 Proof cents worth !!

Funny how things work out in life............I am a new member and don't what to clog the discussion but I acquired a svdb with all the correct paperwork in 1972 in EF for $160.00 from a coin dealer in Great Falls, Montana.........I saved and saved for that coin and to see that the value today is not as important as the history of the coin. I hope one day it ends up with someone who has enjoyed it as much as I have.........Thanks for listening to my chabber

Hi Andrew
Welcome to the forum and the discussion,, varied opinions are all good !! and worth while !! And all of the past collector stories are absolutely priceless !!
160.00 for an EF 09-S VDB ,, not only is the coin a great testament to history but so is the price that you bought it at !!

My father got me interested in coin collecting as a boy.........He is dying now of cancer at the age of 79 and he always told me to stay the course and get involved in a good hobby when I was young......I remember going back to New York City with him in 1974 and we bought a 1877 Indian in fine condition for $120.00 from a noted dealer there.........My dad horse traded a set of hubs to a guy for a 1914D in AU back in the sixties......Sure nice to chat with folks who understand the history foremost as that is the best part of this hobby.........
