This was a very difficult hole to fill for my pocketbook. Purchased raw from another large cent collector, we went round and round about grading and attributes, but in the end I brought him home.

Think it will achieve at least "Good"? Nothing more sad than an AG slabbed coin. Sad part is it will be going in my registry set so there goes the neighborhood for my average. Maybe someday I can bump him up.

Honest opinions. I have searched for a while to find this guy. Hate to throw him back into the market.
Rest in Peace

Based on the reverse, probably F or better detail but severely corroded. The net grade would be AG though.

Wow, that was quick. I was actually just returning home and had quite the haul.

Thank you for the quick responses. Man!, I was hoping for G, I knew I was being biased so I had to put it to the panel. I got a great deal on it and cant complain as it looks great in hand and I am still very happy with it. Been seraching for it for a while now.

Odd thing..Wife asked to see the coin again before heading out the door a few minutes ago. Referred to it as the "ugly one that you were so exited about last week" Just out of the blue she wanted to see it again, seems it has been bugging her since I showed it to her.

Like some light bulb in her head went off. That it was REAL money, that people actually used these coins 200 years ago. She was so cute.

She inspected it with such scrutiny. Even went so far as to ask for a book to compare against from the shelf. The large date vs the small date and she actually saw the difference once I showed her what to look for. She has seen me compare and ID large cents for years and never really could care less. Then this one seems to have caught her interest.
