I am very tired so I hope this makes sense..

I have a 1921-P Morgan that matches about ~75% of the markers for VAM 1K. None of the others appear to come any closer.

The cracks around the coin on both obverse and reverse are thinner, however.. and in one spot do not quite match up (slightly further north, like it may not have progressed quite as far south as the state the die was in during picture-taking time at varworld).

So the question is - is it still a 1K? Or is there another defined VAM that is an early die state of 1K that is missing a few of the cracks in the later die state? Basically, does one VAM cover all states of the die?

No easy answer here, as the process of designating VAM's has somewhat changed over the years. Generally, a given VAM shows die progression - cracks can be more or less thick and/or long - the important point is that they're always in the same place.

Except if they aren't there yet? The pics for this VAM only show one state, unfortunately.

Yah.. maybe I will get some pics up here in the next couple days. I could be totally off on the VAM, but it sure doesn't seem like it from the photos on vamworld. So you could be right.

thanks guys I'll get comparative pictures and post them here tomorrow or Monday.

Exactly - a die progression of ever-bigger cracks is certainly possible for a given VAM, as long as the cracks you *do* have are all right.
