Key dates in ANY grade are fantastic investments. Sometimes it's even a better idea to pick up AG3 and G4 keys as these will go up on a percentage basis as their higher grade counterparts not to mention, there is a larger collector base for such coins come time to sell(when it comes to keys, most collectors just want one or need one).
I purchased a 1916-D Merc PCGS AG3 a few years ago and it has gone up in value nicely. I know very few folks who have this coin in MS63FB!
Quote:MGT As you might have noticed, I am on the rampage for
Buffalo nickel lately. I bought a 1921 S for around 120.00 as that is all I could see spending on it. You can read the date easy and see the mint mark and it is slabbed and graded by PCGS. While I bought a 1924 S for $21.95 last night in VG it would cost well over $1.000.00 in XF. I try to buy the best coin I can afford at the lowest price I can find that I like to look at.
I really think it is important that you like the way the coin looks to you.
To help complete my restored Buffalo collection, I recently purchased a 1918/7-D restored Buffalo because I liked the way it looked. It has a nice date with overdate visible, and the price was right. I doubt I'll restore one anytime soon. I try not to purchase non-original coins, but sometimes when it comes to keys, I make an exception if the price is right.
