I was considering later maybe buying something on this forum, and was wondering if you send cash through the mail, do most people just send it in an envelope, or do most people send it through Priority or some other form of mail? Thanks, its just that I've always felt paranoid about sending cash through the mail.

hi wheatguy, as long as you wrap the cash in paper or something like that so it cant be seen through the envelope you should be okay. I have never had cash go missing when I ve sent or received.

I haven't sent cash through the mail in a while, but what I usually do is fold it in half and place it in one or two sheets of 8x11 paper. Sometimes I make it more riskier by sending coins too (I tape the coins to the paper so it doesn't roll around)  |

Well, I would never send any more than I can stand to lose. You could add tracking to the envelope.
I rarely send over $20.00 in cash.

Thanks for the info. I feel better about sending cash through the mail now. By the way, wheezydog, if you track an envelope, do you have to go to the post office? |

So if the post office loses it, they contact you? And you can check on the computer if it arrives?

Never had a problem with cash in the mail, and I'm talking regular mail. The key is to just be smart about it, and hide it so no one knows it's there -- either wrap it in paper, stick it in the middle of your letter, or put it into a greeting card, but make sure it can't be detected from outside the envelope.

I stand corrected...slightly. Not sure who would use Registered Mail domestically. You can also do a delivery confirmation for 19 cents. The post office can still prove it was delivered and save some money.

I'm sorry, I did mean delivery confirmation, not tracking. ( but it might be the same thing? )
Still, I think that if something has delivery confirmation, the chances of it getting conveniently lost are slimmer.

DC through PayPal online postage is 19 cents but at a post office it is 80 cents(70 cents for Priority). Also, per USPS regulations, DC can only be used on a parcel package of at least 3/4" thickness.

I think Delivery Confirmation also does tracking. I entered a couple of numbers a few times on the USPS site and it gives me the arrival and departures of the package. It never did that before. I guess people love to track their items like UPS does and USPS decided to do the same.

Sometimes tracking can be very important -- I have even used printouts of online tracking documents in court to prove a letter was delivered and signed for. The Court acccepts them as evidence in these cases.
