Hi, artdio, You are supposed to have 50 posts, before you can use the buy/sell/trade/ forums, sorry. And, yes, the Newfoundland gold coins are a rare breed.

Can anyone confirm the pure gold weight of a Newfoundland $2 gold coin?
I hear that these can be purchased at Bullion Value, if not in really great condition.
I would love to add an example to my collection, not a high grade or anything outstanding just a circulated example.

Am I seeing things because I see artdio has 890 posts so what would prevent him from selling here?

Second question:
Is there a mathematical equation that I can use to calculate the pure gold contain of an item.
If we know the weight and the purity of the gold, how would that be calculated to determine the content of 99.99 pure gold.

Total Weight * % gold / 31.1035 = AGW (Actual Gold Weight) in troy ounces

So a NFLD $2 containing .917 gold with a weight of 3.33g contains 0.0982 troy oz of gold.

So, barriecarson you said that it was possible to buy those coin for bullion value, so approx 140$ ?
If yes, I would definitely buy some, even if not in great shape.

You might be able to find them at bullion but I would expect that to be the exception and not the rule. These are all low mintage. Here is the cheapest one that's sold recently on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1885-Newfou...dfe61&_uhb=1 and even with the 'attachment' it sold for double bullion value.
