One of my co-workers, who also collects coins, sent me an email that said the US Mint was going to start selling ASE proofs/uncirculated on November 1st. I've been all over the mint's website and I can't find anything on this. It still shows the proofs and the uncirculated ASEs as being suspended. Has anyone heard this, is there someplace else that references the Novemer sale date? Thanks in advance.

I also heard that the mint was going to produce the ASE Proofs, I hope this is true. I also heard things like this earlier this year, and since, I have found out that the ASE in Unc, to date there are 880,000 of them. I know we can not get them from the Mint, all is silent on the official on line catalog, just another B S part of this wonderful hobby, it's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$..... Lets hope what you heard about the 2009-ASE'S becomes a reality, and WE can order our own from the Mint, that in ALL the 45+ years I have been collecting, I have not seen anything like the quality, quantity, or choices that are available, is that a good thing, or Bad....

I hope they make the west point ASE this year sometime and then put together the annual Uncirculated Dollar coin set so I can keep on collecting these things

On the mints site, under subscriptions, you can sign up for the ASE Proof and Unc and it shows the 2009 in the info.

I've had my "Subscription" there for quite some time.......hoping. But, I betcha, there will be nothing special about this year of ASE's.........meaning they will likely mint just as many as previous years, albeit very late in the year. And not only that, they will still be available for sale well into 2010 too ! (just like last year and the year before that) But you watch, there will be a "Prarie Fire Stampede" on ebay, HSN, and elsewhere, where they will be selling these 2009 ASE's for VERY high premiums, when all the public has to do is go onto the Mints Website and order one for themselves !

I only hope you are right Eaglefoot, I do not want to be held captive any longer, then to be pillaged by E-Bay after waiting this long, no thanks....

I think Eaglefoot is correct. Even if they start the sales late in the year the mintage will be normal. Why? Because the 880,000 figure is probably the number of advance subscription orders they already have. And once it goes on sale, with the pent up demand and worry people have been doing over this thing the mints order lines will be swamped with people trying to make sure they get theirs. the ebay, TV and telemarketers will all use the hype over the late ordering period to hype them as "potential rarities!! We are lucky enough to have a few (thousand) so get them while you can at the low price of only (insert some gosh awfully rediculous price here)"

Newbie question ..... what exactly is an " ASE Proof"? I've never been exposed to the term ....... is this something different than a regular US Mint proof? David

Nickelsearcher, The American Silver Eagle is a bullion coin released from the U S Mint in Uncirculated, and Proof, also in a burnished finish. The Unc is a sweet looking coin, just not as shiny, the Proof IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT LOOKING BULLION COIN, the planchets are highly polished, then the dies are even polished, then the coin/bullion is struck multiple times giving a beauty of a sweet looking finished product, I hope this helps...

Thank You morgans dad ...... that helps a lot.
I have some 'older' uncirculated silver $1 eagles ...... but never a proof.
Maybe I should stand in line and try to purchase one this year?
Best
David
