I am thinking about purchasing a silver "dollar" from the british mint. can anyone tell me how much silver one of these coins contains? They are essentially a dollar coin only they call them pounds. Is there more than one troy ounce of silver in them? I ask because they are very thick. Thanks

I'm not a pro, but I believe a 1 pound silver coin has 1/2 oz of silver and a 2 pound coin had a full oz. the 50 pence is 1/4 oz and the 20 pence is 1/10 oz.

I normally buy the uncirculated Britannia One Ounce Silver coin. They mail 100,000 of them each year. Basically the same idea as the American Eagle silver coin but they do alter the Britannia design.

Which coin are you thinking of buying? Royal Mint does have a web site.

I've got a 2003 1-ounce silver Britannia, they're lovely coins yet the thing is I can't find a proper 2x2 to store it so I just put it inside a capsule and can't display it in my folder. :S Yuck..
