Judging from the pictures, I'd say AU53.

Neal,

You have a nice collection of gold. These look to be problem-free. You ask if you should have them graded by a reputable company ... absolutely! Uncertified gold coins make most collectors weak-kneed these days with all the counterfeits flooding the market. Those coins in a reputable holder would have instant liquidity.

PCGS is the most reputable, followed by NGC and ANACS. PCGS and NGC require a membership fee for private submissions. ANACS does not and since these are fairly common date coins I would recommend ANACS just to get them in a holder.

I would respectfully disagree with SeatedNut about having this half eagle graded, unless you intend to put it up for sale. An AU-graded 1901-S half eagle (I'd call it no better than AU-50) is worth bullion value plus a small numismatic premium and having it in a TPG holder won't really increase that value. If it has about the proper weight (8.359 grams) it is almost certainly authentic. If you want to put it up for sale on ebay it will probably fetch a few more dollars in TPG plastic. Even so, that difference likely won't be enough to pay back the grading cost.

I would just keep this coin in my collection and enjoy it!
Rest in Peace

I'd call it EF-45 to AU-50. I would only submit it if there was a question as to it's authenticity.

I want to say XF-45 for this one considering the wear on hair.
