It's not high enough to be considered out of line by ebay. This seller has almost a thousand items listed so may very well pay someone to ship items.

It should be against policy, if it isn't!

shipping is several times the value of that coin.

Rediculous. This kind of stuff and the requirement to get involved with PayPal is what has turned me totally off of ebay...and don't even get me started on the fact that they report everything to the taxation people...

$7.45 is high but I have seen shipping alot higher than that before in the range of $12 - $15 for a coin.

Just went to the Canada post site. I put in the dimensions for a 3 ounce #000 bubble mailer from Quebec to Delaware. The cheapest was "Small Packet™ - USA Surface" which was $5.25. So I don't see what's wrong with a total of $7.45. Am I missing something?

Hmm...it's quite possible the Canada-->US postal rates went up. I know they've increased the other direction.

Quote: Am I missing something? No, but I think that would be overpacking, if we're talking about a single coin. All one really needs to do is put it into a 2x2, put it between non-corrogated cardboard taped together at the edges, put it into a regular envelope, address it, and write on it in red pen, "HAND CANCEL PLEASE", so it doesn't go through any machines. Time to do the above? Maybe two minutes. The shipping cost? 98c up to 30g; $1.18 between 31 and 50g. Is $7.45 really warranted?. No.

I can send a couple of coins in a #000 bubble mailer to Canada for around a $1.50 or so. So I don't know how the seller is charging $7.45 for shipping.

I have to agree with you guys! I don't see why a Quarter would require 3 ounces of packing material!

We would never ship a coin like that ever. It screams unprofessional if you ask me. We ship all coins in vinyl, water resistant, #000 mailers so there's no chance of them being machined, then the coin is also put in one layer of bubble wrap then sealed in a plastic bag. Anyone here that has bought from us will tell you that you could sink our packages in a lake for a year and your coin would be fine.

That's fine, bobby, as long as your customers are willing to pay for it. It is, however, not necessary. Quite frankly, I could understand it if you're talking about a rare coin, but only to a point. For $7.45, I think the money would be better spent sending it by registered mail (kept separately from regular mail, not machined, traceable), but that's just me. "Unprofessional"? Maybe, but I don't do it for a living to begin with.

Bobby's shipping methods are in the upper 10% of ebay sellers. Quite a few sent to me arrive as a 2x2 between cardboard in a regular envelope. I'm OK with that for a small, cheap coin. However, once I received an expensive early cent this way, despite sending the guy extra $ to ensure it came in a bubble pack. Fees aside, sellers who are careful with their coins will always be, while others take the easiest path for themselves--and make their extra $ it seems.
