1899-Barber-Quarter,-Strong-Strike?

Does anything look wrong with it to you? The first impression I got was 'maybe its fake' because of the thickness, but then I thought that it might just be a really really strong strike. The band is also really bold at EF-40 which would suggest that, but I don't usually see that. Also, its a common date, and seems to be silver (rings on a hard surface), and nothing else seems to be off (the weight is on too).

Which do you think? It was part of a lot I bought, and I'm starting to think it is real but if it isn't I'll just keep it as an example of a darn good counterfeit and sell the rest as bullion.

This coin looks fine to me I see nothing that would suggest that it's counterfeit. I think it would grade between VF-35/EF-40. Nice con.

Yeah, the thickness just threw me off. Maybe it has a raised rim or something.

It looks like a normal barber to me, more likely VF-35 as the reverse winglines do not appear quite complete. However, it may be a heavily circulated proof?

Just basic diagnostics for early proofs are thicker straight-edge rims, reflective surfaces and a sharper strike. I just thought it to be a possibility because you mention the rim and the strike. I have no idea from the pictures.

Yeah, I will take some more detailed pictures and post them. The rim is definitely much thicker than average and the surfaces look more 'deep'.

The coin would be thicker than the other quarters you have next to, I would imagine, since the grade is better than those other coins (which looks like in good/ about good). I too would grade it VF. Nice coin too.

Nah, it's much thicker than the other VF coins I own too. And not just by a little bit, by a lot.
