I know this probably isn't much to brag about with about 1.8 billion minted, but this 64 D I just got out of a roll is a real blazer. Nicest one I've ever seen. Hope the pix show it off ok.

Nice! For 35 years I've been pulling pre 1960 nickels and hoarding them. For the last few months I've been pulling PRE 1964 nickels (due to the huge mintage of 1964). On rare occasions an especially nice 1964 will come my way and I'll save it. Out of the box I did today I got a 1961, 1962 & 1963 about as nice as your 1964D! It's a keeper for sure! Finding a 45 year old coin that nice in circulation is always a pleasant surprise!

Looks like it's partly toned also, which adds to its appearance.

If only it had full steps it would be a $500 coin. Alas.

That's a nice one. All the 64's I have ever found in change are usually wore to the bone. I once thought about keeping all of the 64's I found in pocket change just to see how many I could find in a lifetime but then I reconsidered thinking "with 1.8B minted, where would I keep all these things?" So, nevertheless, I never started.

I'm finding a lot of good quality early 60's lately also. Most have such poor strikes that even if they aren't worn they don't show much detail. When I find them anywhere near what you found I keep them. A high quality coin,no matter what the mintage, is always worth keeping I think.

How many 64s have you seen with steps? This one has traces of 2.

MS66 med to strong strike, nice eye appeal with a trace of steps.
It might be awhile to you find a better one, so it is a keeper in my book.
