While traveling across Europe on my honeymoon over the summer, a number of people I talked to remarked that American banknotes are boring. Although I feel American currency is very dignified, it is quite bland compared to some other countries. I came across this site while aimlessly surfing tonight. It's called the Dollar ReDe$ign project. Artists (some better then others) submit patterns for $5, $10, $20, $50, $100 and $200 bills. Most of them are horrible but others aren't bad at all. Here's a link: http://richardsmith.posterous.com/Or if you just want to see the bills: http://richardsmith.posterous.com/t...ollarredeignI think this one's kind of cool:

I'd prefer to see the First and Second amendments rather than Seventh and Eighth. Big Time! Nevermind I found it!

I don't like the bill of rights printed on them. Mostly because of gun nuts and their second ammendment have spoiled the BOR for me.

so you like freedom of speech but don't like the right to bear arms? One is just as important as the other to me

Yeah, some of them are "out there" so to speak. But it is interesting to think about.
If currency survives into the next decade, I would like to see some more creative designs. But not as much as I would like to see polymer notes replace the rag notes we have now.

I dont know how I feel about changing the notes but I have to admit that some of those designs are REALLY nice. And I agree some just make you say huh?

I think it's time for change. Compared to the rest of the world, US currency just looks old. The BEP has been making a few changes but it seems like they're trying not to upset people by altering too much. I believe it's time for a full redesign with better anti-counterfeiting measures and features to assist the blind. The new design should be colorful and bold but still distinctive and dignified. Also, the designs should be chosen by people who know what they're doing. Not artists or politicians or the internet.
I like the idea of placing important passages on the reverse but I'd be happy with just the first amendment. Once we do that, we'll have to lose the "In God We Trust." But let's not get political...

Quote: I would like to see polymer notes replace the rag notes we have now. Especially if polymer would prolong the life of $1 notes.

Somebody once told me that US currency got boring when we got taken off the gold standard. Something to do with not wanting the public to lose faith in the value of the dollar.

Makes me want to PS my own currency and see what I can do. I honestly think our money looks cool but the entire world it seems has a lot more beautiful money. Dont know if that was proper grammar...

Wow! Why can't our currency look good again? (like at the 'turn from the 19th to the 20th century' period!)
