What's yours? It's irritating when somebody that has PayPal uses Buy-It-Now and doesn't pay for a few days.

Without a doubt, has to be sells the item at a ridiculous discount, but charges well over $50 for shipping. Even offers a refund of the purchase price if you're not satisfied (just dont' expect a refund on shipping and handling).

My pet peeves..... 1)no seller protection...I have been ripped off more than once due to dishonest buyers. 2)Paypal...if you only new the hassels I have had with them. 3)the way the feedback system can be used for extortion 4)no reasonable competition to ebay meaning ebay can do what they want with no viable options for sellers to go to. They have grown too big for our own good. 5)ebay constantly breaks local laws but because they are an offshore company where ever they operate they get away with it. Do not get me wrong here...ebay has been good for my business and the reputation I have on ebay speaks for itself but if there was another viable option to ebay I would use it.

The last auction I held, and this is not the first time this has happened... My auctions clearly states payment options for all in the in the correct area for this information...
"PAYMENT -Direct Deposit is preferred, (and please use your ID or item No as reference) but bank or personal cheque & money orders are accepted. Buyer pays all postage costs. Buyer assumes all responsibility once posted. All items are sent by Reg. mail only, (once all funds have cleared). Payment is required within 3 days. (Unless arranged prior to auction close), a "non paying bidder" will be lodged with e Bay and negative feed back may result."
Now most of this is a bluff but due to prior problems but I now use the above & I realise 3 day's I not alway's long enought to pay but I alway's wait 7 day's before worrying about it. But as mentioned my last auction, one winner of an item ONLY after winning it and with the 7 day's past with no payment I lodge a Non payment with e Bay... Obviously after his e Bay message, then & only then does the buyer inform me sorry not to contact me but payment will be a further two weeks away, as he was a little broke. And when stating my auction bidding rules... Yes he did read this but though it would be alright!
THIS SORT OF RUDENESS & IGNORANCE TOWARD OTHERS REALLY REALLY PEEVES ME RIGHT OFF.

Although I have not sold on e-bay, I have made many purchases. I guess that I have been fortunate and have dealt with some wonderful sellers. I agree that there is dishonesty going on...where isn't there. My heart goes out to those of you that have to deal with unscrupulous buyers. As a buyer, I too don't always read the "fine print". So far so good though. I ALWAYS e-mail the seller if I have questions or problems with a bid. I haven't dealt with coin sellers yet. Can I find you folks on e-bay or are you specifically listed in our forum somewhere? Maybe I haven't searched well enough to find you all. Hang in there! Dealing with the Public isn't always fun!

I am--as I called myself in another thread--a neophyte bottom-feeder when it comes to ebay. What has bothered me the most in my brief tenure is the sellers who won't offer a grade of their coins. They say "grading is subjective" or "I'm not a licensed [or professional] grader", as if that's enough. Instead they say that the picture they provide is all you need to grade the coin yourself. Now I really enjoyed the thread on photography, and Bobby's pictures are stunning. But most of the pictures out there do not show enough detail to use the Red Book guidelines for grading. Never mind the hidden imperfections. Uh, is there detail in the sandal of that Walker? I sure can't tell. Any thoughts?

I'm not a coin grader so if I sell coins I'll just post the best picture I can.

Hey, NDS, you're an old-timer and I'm still a greenhorn; I may be way off-base. And of course one has to take a seller's grading with some small amount of salt, given the propensity to over-grade one's wares. But honestly, I low-ball these kinds of auctions because I figure the seller is trying to hide something. That hurts me because I probably miss out on some great coins that I couldn't convince myself were worth it. It also hurts the seller because he receives less money (if I win) or less bidding action (which may translate to a lower selling price even if I don't win). What would build up more trust and result in higher bids (at least from me) is 1) Best pictures possible (again, see Bobby) 2) Descriptions of the coin's imperfections including chatter, scratches, et al. -- I really don't want to be disappointed when I receive your coin. 3) Descriptions of the features that directly pertain to grading that might not be evident in the photo (e.g., quantity of lines/steps/horn visible, number of words or letters clear, areas where detail is present or absent). 4) I really appreciate when a seller quotes from his grading source and then relates the standard to his coin. All IMHO Peace

I would not want to asign a grade to a coin and have it be wrong. I don't try to hide anything in auctions. I really don't know how to grade. I just buy going by the way the coin looks. If it looks good I buy it.

Is that to much to ask ?

Same here, at least they could have the common courtesy to reply to the payment and to give a shipping date. some, you never hear a word and the item just shows up.Or if you do try to find out if the item has been shipped, they don't respond.

You cannot expect to get an accurate grade from an ebay seller. Not that there aren't accurate graders on ebay, but they are greatly outnumbered by those who overgrade due to either greed or incompetence. I actually prefer a seller who does not grade, unless in the presence of excellent pics. If the picture isn't good enough for you to form your own grade opinion, you shouldn't be paying over bullion for the coin. Plain and simple.

I just won my first coin on e-bay last Saturday (still haven't received the coin yet) so I'm pretty new to this but I've been checking for coins everyday now. What I suppose is most annoying to me is the outrageous claims people make about ordinary coins. Whether it be "high grade" or "rare" some of the descriptions are just a farce. I can't believe how many "rare" 1983 quarters I've run across in the last few days. I suppose it's part hype to get one's coins to stand out but mostly it it's just out and out con job (anybody check out where 90% of the Trade dollars are being sold from?). I'm glad I have enough experience to be able to recognize the bull****. I feel sorry for anyone new to coin collecting that falls for this kind of garbage and am angry about the damage it does to the image of the hobby. I suppose on the flip side (or should I say reverse?) those that really love coins will hang in there even if they get burned once or twice and chalk it up to experience. I know I've had a few "learning experiences" as I suppose most of us have. My 2¢

I'm aware of that, I collect quarters [:p] But with a mintage of over half a billion, I don't see how that qualifies as "rare". They certainly warrant a premium for condition scarcity but to be called rare? There's a 1983-D right now being offered BIN for $5.95 for VF! Puleez! That's what I'm talking about!
