This Morgan dollar finally arrived in the mail today. What grade do you think it is?

To show some of the luster

Scattered bag marks and ticks commensurate with MS63. Nice Morg!

I agree with the MS63 assessment. The hit below the eye, on the nose, the top lip, and something on the chin will hold it back from any higher I think. It also looks like maybe some chatter above the eagles head, and a couple of hits just to the left of the base of the wing. While it could be merely the angle of your photo, this looks like a very nice strike for New Orleans.

It's a very nice coin.

The coin looks very nice and detailed in hand, but there are those obvious hits on it. Was New Orleans known for weak hits?

I realize these are extremely rare, but what classifies a coin as deep mirror proof-like? I only ask because I was looking at some other 1882O Morgans classified as MS63 and they looked to have a much shallower hit than this one. Is it possible this could be a DMPL Morgan or is that just absurd?

I think it makes MS-63, Misses the MS-64 due to the marks on cheek and nose.

Reflectivity only. A DMPL Morgan shows that level of reflectivity whether it's MS67, MS60 or AU (and yes, I've seen slabbed DMPL AU Morgans).
