Wow...that's a pretty straight crack--or is it it a scratch/gouge in the die?

Yeah, I thought about how straight it was too. Might be a die scratch? Definitely raised. We'll wait for others to check in :-)

not sure what it is either but very nice.If I were looking at the reverse only, I'd never guess it was a 43 steel cent .Nice toning

It definitely looks to be a die gouge, from what I can only guess. Maybe feeder fingers.

Die Gouge. If it were a die crack it would not run straight. Crack vary in directions. The outside edge of the die is the fields. The devices are down into the die (deeper). With the gouge on the outside the die, it could flow past a device without altering the device. That is what you have.
Here is a pair of small die cracks. Note the irregular lines they show:

Would I save it? Yes, for educational purposes. The coin appears to be BU and that is a second reason to save it. I hope you don't mind I saved the image for educational further teaching purposes.

I'd say that coin is a keeper
Is a gouge that large/deep unusual for LWCs?
It would be on an IHC--I haven't seen anything like it.
