Wasn't there a thread recently about a camouflage nickel. I suppose this could be a camouflage Peace dollar. I've seen something similar on a coin my Grandma had since WWII. She kept in some sort of plastic that turned varnish brown and was very brittle. Once unwrapped the coin looked a lot like this.

This needs a good acetone bath.

Please give it an acetone bath, looks like you might have a nice au '21 under all that!

Nice strike. Like to see it after you give it a bath.

Whoa - nice coin. Agreed a bath is in order to remove the 'artwork'. Sharp!

I will not chemically treat this coin. It's been stored since the 1940's like this, best to leave this key date alone IMO.

LOL, yes I can. Acetone will not touch this and, if anything, will make the coin look cleaned. What you see is toning from 60 years of storage, not dirt.

I like it. Don't "bath" it at all. It looks perfect to me. Very unique.

Looks EF/AU to me. Probably 45 or 50. The 1921 is the only Peace dollar I really like. It is too valuable a coin to mess with.

How much different is the 1921 High Relief vs the normal?

Quote: It is too valuable a coin to mess with. True. And now that I've looked at this coin on a different monitor and can see it better, I can see it isn't 'stuff' on the coin like I previously thought. Interesting what a better monitor can do for you..
