I just got off ebay and I am startled to see how much the Lincoln Chronicles set is going for. Saw a few auctions approaching 3x value. Sure does make $55 bucks look like a bargin! Where do you see the price leveling out at in terms of a collectors item. This is a really special set I feel and I'm happy to have my being shipped to me as we speak. Will these sets see the balloon deflate after the hype of the ordering and low mintage has passed?

Limited numbers are really only on the package, not on the coin. Hype will probably carry through Christmas then drop like a rock.

I did not buy the set for future value, but I will speculate anyway. This is not just any regular proof set, it is the Lincoln proof set. Lincoln is always listed as one of the most popular presidents, giving the set a broad appeal. I believe that this set will always have a premium value because demand for these sets will always exceed supply. This is just my opinion. If RFB is right, it would not bother me because it is the set that I wanted; not just the coins.

I agree that there is a whole lot of hoopla right now surrounding the coin and the difficulties the mint had with their server. Jbuck your right its the set we want because of its unique and I feel quite tastefully presented. I have been reading around the web and have seen that some collectors are humbled at the prices ebay is fetching and have said they might do the same. In terms of long term value I feel this set will be near a hundred dollars. Does anyone else think so?

54cents. Have you seen that Lincoln 1/2? He has horrific dead eyes. I wouldn't pay anything for one of these sets.

Once the hype dies down, people will be cracking the sets and selling the coins from them, as they will command a higher price that way...the same as almost any other proof set that has come out!

I definitely won't be cracking mine. This will be the first "special" proof set that I have acquired since my run of prestige proof sets in the late 80's and early 90's. The prestige sets were actually gifts from my mother, making this the first time that I bought a set with the intent to keep it as a set. The prestige sets are intact, and intact this one will remain as well.

I'm very tempted to sell mine and use the money to buy (or towards buying) early Franklin proofs I need 1950,51 and 52 They aren't cheap so this may be a way to get one of them. What do you all think I should do? I'm open to opinions If I could get $200.00 or more that would probably push me to sell JC

Hmmmm....... a discontent'er ! .... Paul.....it is a 1oz Silver Dollar of Abe, not a 1/2. And it "did" sell out at the mint. And they were/are VERY popular. I believe most people were quite satisfied with the "new" design. This design featured, for the first time, more of a "front looking" design, versus the common "side" shot we usually see as well. Wow though !.......sorry to hear that you didn't like it ! jayceeg ....Quote: I'm open to opinions If I could get $200.00 or more that would probably push me to sell JC Usually the "hot" time is in the immediate bubble for that kind of thing, and then the excitement and "selling power" begins to wane once people lose interest and move on to something else, and it may be true with this Set right now too....no way to know this for sure. Keep in mind that President Lincoln is a VERY popular President, and will be for an infinite amount of time to come. We'll see what the "demand" will be for this particular Set 5 years from now.....but.....it's all about Lincoln......and that's why I'd NEVER part with mine ! It could very well level off and hold at $100.00 for a while, but then slowly rise through the next 10-20 years and beyond too. But, I vote that you keep it and find a way to buy the nicer Franklins from some other means !

I do have the Lincoln Commemorative and a proof set for the cents. So the only difference is the packaging. Have to see how crazy the bidding gets on E-bay and then decide.

I seriously doubt anyone will be cracking out these sets. There's ZERO reason to do so since all the coins can be had by other means. Someone would be VERY foolish to crack one of these sets when they are worth so much as they are.

In this case I did buy the "slab" and not the coin(s).

I am sure PCGS and NGC will have some kind of fancy label to place on the sets when they are still sealed from the mint and sent to them and if that is the case there will be some people wanting sealed sets to send in to the TPG's so they will be able to add the coins to their registry sets

Mine is on the way. I just have to decide when to sell mine...now or a little closer to christmas. I plan on using the money to fund my other registry set collections alot more.

Are the coins available from the mint to buy seperately?

The commemorative dollar was, but has sold out.
The cents are still available; either in the full proof sets (silver and clad) or on their own (as one four cent set).
