with the coin being held with the 'nose' pointing at high noon, picture the date as if it is surrounded by an invisable rectangle and the 'S' is in the process of committing suicide. notice on these two, that number 1 is estheticley in line with the rest of the date in the rectangle. and, from this angle, it is easy to see where the 9 is pointing.
I'm taking close-ups of all the 70 S's I have tonight, and will post them over the next day.
Keep watching.

I rotated and then zoomed in on the pic. They all seem to be the normal date. Only one in question was top row 3rd from left (looking at it in upright positon). Liberty seemed flat.

This is a variety that easily makes me crosseyed in photos because in-hand they're easy to spot
I'd hate to make a wrong call from too little info, which is why I take big pics like this:

These things are way too easy to get all bent out of shape doing odd things to identify them. Both images in the first post are large date coins. It's easy to tell because the inside of the 9 comes to a squared-off end. The picture in the second post is a small date cent. It's easy to tell because the inside of the 9 comes to a sharp point. That's all it takes. The 9 digit is completely different between the two varieties, and if you learn that much, they will be very easy to spot.

Additionally, any coins in AU or better condition will show a crease running across the 7 where the two angles meet on the large date. The small date does not have this crease. The crease is visible on both images in the first post, but is worn. The lack of a crease is evident in the second post.
