Today I have received two 2009 mint sets: However, upon closer inspection, a problem has been found with one of them: Where is my cent? Also, the cent with the dome is in a different slot, than in the Denver set. The set hasn't been opened, so the coin couldn't have fallen out or be removed from the set. It has arrived in an unopened box, too. What I'd like to ask is - how common is it for a mint set to have missing coins like this.. and how has it happened?

Are there two coins in one hole? alignment of cent next to empty is way off.

Looks like there is only one cent in that hole.. however it might not be the case because the D set weighed at 139.6-139.7 grams, and the P one at 139.8-139.9 grams.. so it would suggest it's there..

They must have run out of those particular coins. Just kidding of course. You need to call them and make sure you get credit for shipping it back as well. The mint sets quality control is very disappointing. I will buy single coins of those I need off dealers next year.

I too have received 5- Mint sets, 3 were returned, if you state the problem, they will refund your return shipping fees, I received the sets on Oct 12th, returned them and received the replacement sets today, the coins were ALL scratched, banged up and just of very poor quality, Now I will open the replacement 3-sets and check them out, it took 12-days to make the cycle complete....

I have one (older) mint set in cellophane where someone was asleep at the nickel switch - cellophane is sealed like normal, just without the intended coin! I had never seen that before.. and yours is only the second set I've seen missing a coin (haven't really searched around, though.. I thought it was pretty funny so I kept it).

A friend of mine got his set this past Saturday. One of his P mint Cents was sandwiched halfway in it's place and halfway wedged in the cardboard. Also, all the other coins in the P set were loose and rattling around.

Personally I would keep the set because believe it or not they hold a premium. I would just purchase another. I have also seen some 2004 mint sets that have two of the same State Quarters. HE charged $300+ for the sets and received it! Keep it, it is a rarity!

When I returned an Uncirculated Set to the Denver Mint Gift Shop last Friday (the Philly Set had black marks on the LP1 Cent and Polk Dollar), there were three other returned Uncirculated Sets there. In one Philly Set, the LP4 Cent had fallen out of its slot and ended up in the JFK slot, combined with the JFK Half-Dollar! (they showed that to me just to joke that my returned Set wasn't 'that bad'!) I would bet that the same thing happened here, that the LP3 and LP4 Cents are now 'co-habitating' in the LP3 slot! Even in the Set that I received in exchange, in the Philly Set the LP2 Cent is 180° upside down and all the other Philly coins are right side up! Since the coins are in good shape, I kept this Set...
