Often fakes will have plain or reeded edge (both sure signs of a fake) but there are also high quality fakes that can fool most experts. On the plus side, many of the "contemporary counterfeits" are worth more than a common 8 Reales. If your coins are real and are common dates, mints and assayers they are worth $25-$50 each depending on who wants them and condition. From your description and what I can see in the photo you have lower condition Carlos III, Carlos IV and both varieties of Ferdinand VII. Nice coins and I can't wait to see better pictures. tenacious Valued Member United States 69 Posts	Posted 11/04/2009 04:00 am kcredwolf - If you can't get better pictures with your camera, try a scanner if you have one. Sometimes you can get fairly good images with a scanner. Just be careful that the coins don't scratch the glass or the glass scratch the coins. I put a piece of cardboard under the edge of the scanner lid to hold it up slightly. That keeps pressure off the coins. Edited by tenacious 11/04/2009 04:07 am Report this Post to the Staff

I have been enjoying your forum, reading up and learning a lot. =) I can tell you that the edges of the coins are all the dot-dash looking ones (i cant remember the other name they called that. some have quite a few interesting chopmarks, one doesn't hae any I can see, but it is one that is quite faded. I think my grandad bought them from Montgomery Ward, but I dont know when. I found an advertisemet for the reales in his papers. Have a great day everyone ! Report this Post to the Staff
