Hi! I have no idea if I am posting in the right place- looking for some guidance... I have a small collection of coins left to me by my grandad and I am trying to find out more about the value, how to care for them, etc... Most of them are Spanish silver dollar coins (8 reale) with dates ranging from 1791-1818. They all have the scroll and crown on the back. Some are very faded. One is from the 1780's but I cant read the last number in the year. I have seen all kinds of articles about them, but not finding any luck in finding their worth. I also have a Washington quarter from 1942 and a silver dollar from 1923 with an eagle on the back. I do not have a way to post pictures right now, but I was hoping somebody could give me some suggestions or advice based on my desription please? Thanks!

Hi! I'll wait for the Spanish coin experts to come along lest I embarrass myself, but in terms of value the quarter is worth at least melt value in silver, which I think is around 3 bucks, and what I'm assuming is a Peace dollar is worth somewhere around 12 dollars. Any chance we get some pics to see the level of wear etc.? PS As to how to care for them, there are a lot of topics on how to care for coins. Use the search function and you might find information loaded with awesomeness. I know I did. Just don't clean them yet, whatever you do.

The best place to find out about the Spainish coins is the world coin section. There's lots of experts here (I am not one of them yet) who are more than willing to help. Have fun!

to the community, If you can post some pictures of your coins, close ups of each coin is best. Swamperbob is the forums expert on Spanish Reales.

Welcome to the CCF! Your coins look nice. Unfortunately, I have to wait till I get home. I'm on my cell and the pictures are not very good on this screen :-(

What you may want to try also is describing the coins as best you can if your know your photos are not great. Take your time and explain the best you can. Your photos so far show most are foreign coins and there is a separate forum here for coins from other countries.

kcredwolf- Those are in fact Spanish colonial 8 Reales. Unfortunately these coins are very frequently targeted by forgers. So we'll need some much clearer pictures in order to be able to authenticate them. Would it be possible for you to take some higher-res. pictures of each coin's obverse and reverse?
