Volume of offerings on ebay (In my case Morgan and Peace dollars) have more than doubled in the past week. I have special searches set up for year groups minus certain mintmarks and specific sellers. In the 1878 year group I normally get between 600~700 returns from the search. In the last week I've gotten over 1600.

I also noted last night that a certain major Vammer has listed many rare 78's from his collection.

Is this a major dump preceding the economic apocalypse? Or an opportunity to snag some offerings at great prices?

I'm going to wait until the volume goes down before listing some of mine.

I just think people are hurting for $$. In hard times, folks will sell anything of value. I've noticed the value of classic cars plummet dramatically from a year or two ago.

I agree. Having valuable coins and other assets that sit there give you no direct purchasing and bill paying power. I think some people need the money. I imagine some of these people might have inherited some valuable coins and kept them, but were not really collectors and now with economic times being tough and uncertain, they cash them in.

In the past I kept everything I had. Now when I head to the coin shop I bring something to trade. Even though I have been fortunate enough to keep my job, money feels a lot tighter. I just can't justify spending too much so I trade some. Maybe some eBayers are doing the same thing.
