Well if I translated the date correctly the year 1223 so it was made in 1808AD. I can't help you any more than that, I thought it says 26 as the currency on the reverse but I'm probably wrong.

This is an easy one, Turkey, 10 para AH 1223 yr. 26, krause nr. 595, .170 silver 0.50-0.75 gr. a common one, this would do abouth 2 dollar.
Greetings, Carl

You got the numbers right. But the 26 is the year after accession to throne (in this one is 1223 AH Mahmut II, roughly 1808+26=1834 AD) so all the coins minted in the same sultan's reign have the same date on one side and increasing numbers on the other one. By the way, here in Turkiye, these coins (ones minted before 1836) need a permission to keep:)

JIm - I know almost nothing about the coinage of Turkey - but perhaps someone more familiar with the type could address one concern I have.
This coin looks like a casting - the small planchet defects at 180 degrees apart look exactly like a sprue and vent marking on a cast coin. My question, for those familiar with Turkish issues, is were these coins struck onto CAST planchets.
If this coin was produced almost anywhere in the America's in the 1830 era I would conclude it was a forgery.
