I've been considering considering a commemorative type set, like the one shown here:

So has anyone here attempted this or something like it? Although difficult, I'll probably have a fun time filling it in. I'll probably have to wait a little though, I'm already working on a Mercury dime and SLQ set.

That looks like it would be very expensive to complete .. but would be a nice set to have.
I still have two commemorative half dollar holes to fill in my general type set.

Yes, I started mine a few years ago and have completed it. This set has a few "heavy hitters" so be patient. Also, there is a similar set for "modern" commemoratives which you may wish to consider.

I have been working on a classic commemorative set for the past two years. At my current rate, it will take me another eight years to complete.

I recommend "A Guide Book of United States Commemorative Coins" by Q. David Bowers for anyone looking for advice on buying coins in this series.

Wow, do you have any pics? And thanks Buzzard, I'll check out the book. I'm drawing closer and closer to starting one.....

I am starting a modern commemorative set now. I enjoy learning the story behind these events and people.

I do have a classic commemorative coin - 1936-S Oregon. It's so beautiful.
