Poll Question
I often see listings on ebay that look like this.
Coins-Collected-Or-Purchased,-Stored-By-The-Roll-Opinions
Sometimes it is a spilled out plastic tube, or just a pile of shiny coins but it really does make me queasy.
Coins transported via mail with a little space for movement in a tube or spilled out for a photo shoot, displayed by a dealer to a collector over a showcase counter just has to make a clinking jangling noise which to me means contact and scratch marks.
It just bothers the heck out of me that some people will take a Gem roll and spread the coins out, handle them like a stack of poker chips clinking them and just drop them back in the tube.

Do you think that this ( even the slightest bit of handling GEM BU coins ) has to have some effect on the coins?

When I handle my tubes or rolls of UNC coins you can hear a housefly burp. I even protect most all UNC rolls from my breath and dust and always handle them by the edge or use a glove.

Question is:
Am I being overly careful handling rolled BU coins?

Poll Choices
Yes Coins can take a bit more handling than you think
No Each time coins come in contact with another, it does cause wear or damage to some degree.

I don't think you can be overly cautious!

I do the same thing so I don't think you are being overly careful

Nothing at all wrong with being very cautious but most of the BU silver rolls are low MS coins at best and often dipped AU coins being sold primarily as bullion.

I've had numerous "BU rolls" of silver coins and nearly all of them were 20th century mintage, 90% silver coins. A close examination usually reveals a good number of AU coins mixed in.

I am always careful handling them but went to show once to trade them and the dealers threw them around like frisbees! Really didn't hurt their value because they were not numismatic coins by most people's standards.
