Since my Dansco albums arrived, and I had no Kennedy half dollars to speak of, I decided to try my luck at the local BoA.

They only had 1 $20 roll of halves, and said I could order them, but I would have to order them by the box ($1000). I didn't really feel like throwing a grand toward Kennedy halves, but when she opened her drawer to take out the 1 roll, I saw 4 fat & short rolls in her box.

I asked her if those were Ike dollars, and she said she didn't know what they were. I told her they must be large dollar coins, and she opened one, and confirmed it (duh!). I asked if I could have all four for $80 (face), and she told me she would be willing to give me 2. I asked her why not all four, and she replied she wanted to save them...

Well, I wasn't going to push my luck, and walked out of there with the roll of halves, and 2 $20 rolls of Ike dollars!!

Maybe that isn't very special, but it sure made me feel good :)

So ... In order for me to start filling my kennedy album, I need some help with the halves order. Any forum members wanna to in on me with a purchase of a box and split it 4 ways?

I'm not sure if the box of 2000 coins would all be from the same year and mint, or if it would be a mixed variety ... I could ask if anyone's interested.

Hi. Congrats on the Ikes! I'm a big fan of that coin in all its types. I have 6, four of which are proofs. The two MS's are both graded (PCGS) MS67 and I like those MUCH better than the proofs. All in all, it's a short handsome set and very collectible right now. These coins are undervalued, so you can get them in very high grades easily and inexpensively. I'd really love to know what you found in the rolls.

Also, the kennedy roll was all 64-67 ... Aren't the '64 coins part silver?

The 1964's are 90% silver, the others are 40%.

Becky beat me to the punch. I recently read an article in Coin World suggesting that, for various legal reasons concerning the volatility of the precious metals we've seen lately, we might see a big melt-down of Kennedy '64's. Apparantly the Treasury has lots and lots, which added to the gazillion out in "the field," is now a very common coin. It could be a good thing to have a roll or two.

BTW - the Ikes look very nice. I like the toned 71-D in your album.

Hehe ... is 'toned' another way of saying 'corroded'? It looks quite terrible to me :)

I can't tell from the pic that it's corroded. Toning just refers to what appeared to me to be nice colors. Here's a silver dollar (a Peace dollar, not an IKE because I don't have pics of my IKES) of mine that's attractively toned in my opinion: (the surfaces are clean and not corroded). As to its grade, well I'm thinking of trying to cross it over to NGC because I think this coin is a MS64, possibly even with a star.

I can't believe your good fortune on the halves!
I can walk into any dealer around here and get $4 for the 64's.
Just last week, I got a bit higher than that for one in trade.
The other 60's have $1.84 of silver in them and probably fetch a buck and a half.

I have Eisenhower Prooof Dollars in the big clear cases with the black background are these worth anything? This is going to sound silly but do you get these graded by PCGS or do you just leave them in the case their in? The case on the bottom states Packaged by U.S. Mint. Just wondering, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe these are the same OGP as for the GSA Morgan dollars. I don't know if they still do it, but NGC was leaving them in their case and affixing a sticker to the outside with their grade. PCGS on the other hand was cracking them out and noting on their holder that they were removed from GSA holders.

Since the proof Ike dollars are much less expensive ($10 or less), I don't know how much trouble you want to go to. Is it a really nice cameo specimen? Unless it is exceptional, I'm not sure you want to bother geting it graded.
