Great question... I would have to question this also as the reason being in my Charlton Book it states that this coin was "Not Issued In That Finish".. Here are the copies from the Charlton book. Makes one wonder... doesn't it

Hmm...I just went through 2 years of J&M ICCS catalogues and none show a Arnprior w/die breaks in PL--just PL w/o db. The photo doesn't show much--coincidence? And what's up with the label--have they stopped the watermarks?

Probably not cool from a copyright standpoint to post scans directly from the Charlton catalog.
ICCS stopped using the embossed certificates a few years ago.

Quote: Probably not cool from a copyright standpoint to post scans directly from the Charlton catalog. Not really a problem: (1) Only a very small portion of the copyrighted work is presented. (2) Presentation is for educational purposes. (3) Presentation falls under the "Fair Use" doctrine. Verdict: We're covered! That'll be $200, please.

Yes, you are right about fair use, or fair dealing. However, it seems to be a somewhat regular practice on this site. At some point, collectively, it probably crosses the legal line. Since you are the attorney, you probably know better than me where that point occurs.

In re-reading my two posts above, it sounds like I am taking a personal swipe at D23. That was not my intent. I'm sorry if it sounded that way.
In the more general sense I really do wonder about whether it is appropriate to post excerpts of copyrighted material on the internet. Quoting and footnoting such material in an article or book in the name of education or critique is certainly within the bounds of fair use. I wonder whether putting copyrighted material on a website for potentially millions of people to see still falls under the same fair use umbrella. Like a lot of things with the internet, I doubt the case law has settled out yet.

Hello,
I called Scot (the younger) at ICCS yesterday and I found him very helpful and knowledgeable. I asked him about a 1955 PL WDB and (in my words) He said "there is not nor has ever been graded such a coin". So..... I wonder what this is and how it came to be, China?
Thanks,
Steve

Interesting stuff! It seems the seller is standing by its authenticity (I gather this came from last night?) I AM RESPONDING AGAIN ON THIS BECAUSE OUR RESPONSE SHOULD BE ON ebay FOR ALL TO SEE. THIS COIN WAS GRADED BY ICCS IN APRIL OF 2008. I GOT IT GRADED THEN. I HAVE THE ICCS SERVICE REQUEST WITH THE GRADING ON IT FOR ANYONE THAT IS INTERESTED. SO IT WOULD APPEAR THAT IT IS A VERY RARE COIN IF ICCS CAN'T REMEMBER OR CLAIM THAT THERE IS NO SUCH COIN WHEN THEY ACTUALLY DID THE GRADING A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION

Quote: there is not nor has ever been graded such a coin Interesting--and not surprising. The more I think about this one, the less sense it makes. I can see multiple Arnprior reverse dies, but how would that die crack appear on a PL die and a business strike die? So I asked the seller to confirm by showing a photo of the die crack on that coin.

I just read the sellers response to Steve's question and as timotay01 said the seller says ICCS graded this in April of 2008. There appears to be a stale mate here which in my opinion brings up another point... With changing times and technology would it not be advantageous for ICCS to have a web site with FREE verification service to confirm what coins have been graded by them so there may not be uncertainties such as this.
